if you don't have a current title on it you can go the "Home Made Trailer" route essentially you have to do the following:
- Go to the DMV and you will get a form to certify you have a home made trailer (different then the application for a title) and a ID plate, you will not be able to get a title this trip to the DMV.
- Fill out your part of the form
- install the ID plate
- call the county or state police to come out and certify you installed the ID plate properly on your home made trailer (They fill out part of the form from your first visit to the DMV)
- Take all that back to the DMV, get it titled and registered.

Trailer was bought from a private party in Crozet VA. His wife told him to thin out his Military collection. He did not have another one. Saw one in Fredricksburg on CL but they wanted 1K for it.
